A Jeep Trip to the East part of Mount Gilboa
Dany Jeep will take you to the highest peak of the Gilboa Mountain, the young oak forest, beautiful carpets of blooming flowers and spectacular views observed from the mountain throughout the trip.
This trip contains a fascinating drive through magnificent forests to the eastern part of Mount Gilboa. During the drive we will pass ancient settlements, herds of deer and hopping Rock Hyrax’s. The tour has a great view towards the Jordan Valley, Ramat Yisashar, Ramat Sirin and the Upper and Lower Gallil mountains. We will drive through a beautiful winding way, which will take us to the highest peak of Mount Gilboa – Mount Malcishua.
The beginning of the trip is at the east side of the Gilboa, in Kibbutz Reshafim. We will start our drive to Ein Mudah, pass water reservoirs that are used for breading fish.
The way continues west till we reach the bottom of Mount Gilboa, pass Hirbat Majda’ and right after, the deserted Basalt quarry that is named the same.
This road is also called the “Spring Road”, since there are some springs which provide the villages in the area with drinking water and water for agriculture. Soon we will arrive to a road that will take us to the top of the mountain and after a few miles, we will see the view of the valley.
In the South we will see the lowest part of the Bazak creek, which was the border between Israel and Jordan till 1967, and we can also see the Separation Wall between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. We will also see the northern view towards the Jordan Valley and the Mountains of the Lower and Upper Galilee.
During our ascent we will reach Hirbat Ner which is named after the father of Avner, the Army minister of King Shaul’s army. This is an ancient village from the Byzantine era, which was known as the ultimate time of the Israelites.
The wrecked building we will pass is the remains of “Sheikh House” of Hirbat Um Sirhan, it is told that this place was used as a rendezvous for smugglers.
We will continue our ascent until we reach the forest way and start enjoying the special blooming flowers of the east part of the Gilboa Mountain, later on we will reach the top of the highest mountain in the Gilboa, Mount Malcishua.
On the way we will stop at the beautiful “Shamir” observation point, which overlooks the Beit Shean Valley.
Approximately one kilometer further, we will begin our descent through a beautiful pasture, and a winding road which continues down all the way to the Beit Shean Valley.
This road is sometimes steep and deer will sometimes stroll in the near green pastures.
The road ends in the Basalt Quarry, where we passed earlier.
